I have a WASR10 AK47 and have converted it to a black rifle, great stock, lit scope (blue, red & green dot), red laser and bright light included. The accuracy is great out to 500 meters. No misfires, breakdowns, etc. I see why they are being used all over the planet. You can abuse them a bunch more that the AR15 without being nervous whether it will fire or not. I have fired both and am really satisfied with the AK platform...Besides, I didn't spend an arm and leg on it and the extra parts that I'll probably never need! Plus, the 7.62x39 is a stronger round with accuracy being better using the FMJ with brass shell. They also reload better....for me anyway. I know, it's like having a Japanese bike in the Harley world...I'm hated. But, I'll be confident if another guy comes around firing his weapon at me or anyone else defending our country, that I will put the jerk in the ground!!!

I own both and I have also been on the receiving end of an AK-47. The AK is great in the fact that it is durable. I saw some AK’s in Afghanistan that were so dirty I am sure had never been cleaned and they still fired like a champ. You would never be able to do that with an AR. However, while durability is important, accuracy is paramount. I want to know I can hit what I am aiming at. The 7.52x39 is a more powerful round but the 5.56X45 is much more accurate, so overall I have to say the AR-15 is a better weapon.

The AK is a reliable firearm, but if you want to hit anything past 50 meters, The AR15 is the correct choice The Ar15 is a much more precision firearm for all distances out to about 400 meters.

Although the AK has that unique ability to throw a lot of lead very quickly in pretty much any situation I would still chose the AR as superior rifle. Realizing why we went from a 7.62 to a 5.56 is the fist and far most reason…sustained fire fight. With that 5.56 I could hold almost double the ammo… Don’t get me wrong 7.62 is a nice round but were talking gun here…the second major argument is the accuracy while the AK will hit pretty accurate within 100 yrds the AR will easily do 300 all the while being much easier to adapt and find different sights and scopes. AR RULES

AK47, fires under any condition, doesn't jam, easy to maintain, cheap rounds. Great out to one hundred yards.Who cares after that? Three hundred yards, not so good. However we are not hunting animals, are we? Stick with the AK.

the ak has all the credentials for battle proven reliability and can be scoped for greater accurracy at longer distances while the ar has major battle reliability issues, it could be made exceptable by incorperating a piston gas system and a better performing round.

I like my DPMS AR-15 for accuracy, but my Century Arms AK-47 throws more lead downrange, has a 40-round mag as opposed to a 30-rounder with the AR, is easier to maintain and cost about half as much as the AR. Also, I'm a graduate of the redneck, white trash college of engineering and the bolt cover of my AK is currently held in place by means of a 3" hose clamp. My AR would probably blow up in my hands if I tried that.

This is, an apples vs. oranges question. I have had experience with both, and, it indeed IS an unfair question. They both have their advantages, and disadvantages. Given the "which do you prefer" question, I cannot answer, because they differ so much. Let me go on record as saying that I prefer the AR-180B, by Armalite, it has BOTH the advantages of each rifle.
